Professional Responder Instructor Course Canadian Red Cross:

*Becoming an instructor with the Canadian Red Cross is a 5 step process. Below outlines the details. Choose from the drop down menu to register for the course that you would like and you will receive an email to check your requisites prior to payment. 

 


Professional Responder Instructor Development Pathway

Below is the pathway to become a certified Professional Responder Instructor. You must successfully complete each step before advancing to the next step. Certification is valid for three years.

1. Evaluate Skills and Check Prerequisites 

Must be 18 years or older, and have a valid certification from the Canadian Red Cross for the type of program you would like to instruct:

  • Professional Responder Discipline requires First Responder or Emergency Medical Responder certificate

Successfully complete a skills evaluation for the disciple selected (2-4 hours)

2. Fundamentals of Instruction (8 hours online + 2 day in class)

Complete the Fundamentals of Instruction online component (8 hrs), and a classroom component (2 days) focused on the application of fundamentals. 

*May be exempt if transferring from another first aid instruction organization with current status or licensed teacher

 

3. Discipline-Specific Classroom Component (Online Pre-course + 2 day in class)

  • Professional Responder: 
    • First Responder, Advanced First Aid, Marine Advanced First Aid, Emergency medical Responder

 

4. Teaching Experience (booked with a training partner)

This can be scheduled with any Canadian Red Cross training partner and must be completed within 6 months of completing the Instructor course. Successful evaluation by a teaching experience supervisor is required.

 

5. Certification (Valid for 3 years)

An electronic certification will be issued upon completion of your successful teaching experience. Certification is maintained for a period of 3 years. 

To re-certify your Professional Responder Instructor Certification it is a 1 day course every 3 years, click here if you only require recertification of your First Aid Instructor status.
